What started off as a small company providing quality assurance and localization services in 2009 has grown to be one of the key European companies providing first-class services for the video game industry.

QLOC S.A. currently employs over 350 people in their offices in Warsaw, Gdańsk and Moscow, offering a full suite of services for game developers and publishers to enter new markets and make use of innovative platforms, from quality assurance and translations to porting and remastering the largest video game brands loved by millions of players.

Within their first year of establishment, QLOC was contracted by Capcom Co. Ltd., the leading global game developer and publisher from Japan, to prepare a PC version of their best-selling game “Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition.”

“This was the real beginning of QLOC,” said the company’s President of the Board Adam Piesiak.

“We brought together a team of very skilled developers and formed a Japan relations department around the project. We became recognized for delivering high-quality porting and eventually for remastering and co-development projects.”

“Today, more than 50 percent of our development projects come from Japan,” shared the company’s Business Development Director and Vice President, Paweł Ziajka.

“Our latest and largest project to date, “Dark Souls Remastered,” is a critically acclaimed game created by Japan’s FromSoftware and published by Bandai-Namco. We are honored to have created a remastered version of this cult classic,” added Ziajka.

QLOC has co-developed “Street Fighter 4 Ultra” for PC, Play Station 3, Xbox, Xbox360 and Taito machines with Capcom. Clients are also engaging QLOC to prepare games for Nintendo Switch.

“Cooperation with our clients in Japan is smooth as it is handled by native Japanese employees in QLOC,” added Piesiak Just 10 years since its establishment, QLOC plans to expand its global presence with offices in the United States and in Japan by early 2020.

“The Japanese market is very important to us. We are opening an office in Tokyo to be closer to our clients and we look forward to providing them with our first-class service and support,” concluded Piesiak.

Massive gaming opportunities between Sweden and Japan https://www.synergymediaspecialists.com/massive-gaming-opportunities-between-sweden-and-japan/ https://www.synergymediaspecialists.com/massive-gaming-opportunities-between-sweden-and-japan/#comments Wed, 11 Jul 2018 04:25:29 +0000 https://www.synergymediaspecialists.com/?p=7373
“The Swedish gaming industry is huge,” says David Polfeldt, managing director of Massive Entertainment. “We are part of a movement driven by world-class developers.”

Swedish game development has become an export-oriented business and is leading the way in an increasingly globalized industry.

According to the Swedish Games Industry organization, the industry’s revenue reached 1.32 billion Euros in 2016; double that of just three years prior.

Polfeldt joined Massive Entertainment in 2004 and became managing director in 2009 when the company was acquired by Ubisoft.

The company started as a passion-driven business which has grown from thirty people to a multi-cultural workforce of 550 challenge-driven employees working on some of the largest projects in the industry.

“Every year our job demands more from us as the stakes get higher,” says Polfeldt. “We work with hundreds of people located in different countries and recently opened another studio in Stockholm. As our business has grown, we ensure Massive Entertainment continues to deliver.”

In 2016, Massive Entertainment released Tom Clancy’s ‘The Division’. The game became the fastest-selling game in the history of Ubisoft and Sweden’s largest cultural-export for that year. The game’s success led Ubisoft to be ranked among the top ten publishers in Japan by console unit volume sales in 2017.

Polfeldt believes the game’s success in Japan is founded on the advanced interactive experience which players experience as the game unfolds.

“The Division is a thinking man’s action game which goes deeper, asks more complex questions and poses multiple interpretations,” shares Polfeldt.

“We always work under the assumption that our audience is incredibly intelligent and our approach has proved successful, especially in Japan where gamers expect a full immersive experience and intellectual stimulation.”

Massive Entertainment’s craftsmanship has also caught the attention of Japanese superstar game-developers Hideo Kojima and Fumito Ueda who have visited Massive Entertainment’s studio in Malmö, Sweden.

“We have good relations with Kojima and Ueda and our friendships are based on mutual respect. Japan has always been a leader in the video gaming industry and I would love to work with such great craftsmen,” says Polfeldt.

Massive Entertainment is currently working on ‘The Division 2’ which will be launched on the 15th of March, 2019 followed by the company’s next major title based on Hollywood director James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’.

According to Polfeldt, Cameron saw ‘The Division’ at a trade show and was impressed by Massive Entertainment’s visual fidelity and gaming technology.

“We are working on incredibly exciting projects at the moment and we believe we are in a strong position to work more closely with our friends and partners in Japan.”

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation – ‘Creating Opportunities beyond Gaming’ https://www.synergymediaspecialists.com/the-philippine-amusement-and-gaming-corporation-creating-opportunities-beyond-gaming/ https://www.synergymediaspecialists.com/the-philippine-amusement-and-gaming-corporation-creating-opportunities-beyond-gaming/#comments Mon, 14 May 2018 07:52:27 +0000 https://www.synergymediaspecialists.com/?p=6777

PAGCOR is a one hundred percent government-owned and controlled corporation under the Office of the President of the Republic of the Philippines.

The corporation’s three point vision aims to create an environment that propels the development of the Philippine gaming and entertainment industry, to be a responsible and responsive partner of the Philippine government in its nation-building programs and to establish and enforce a regulatory framework that preserves the integrity of the Philippine gaming industry.

Former Congresswoman (1992 to 1995) and General Manager, Chief Executive Officer of the Philippine Reclamation Authority, Andrea Dizon Domingo joined PAGCOR as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer on July 1, 2016.

Synergy Media Specialists asked Andrea Dizon Domingo about her plans for PAGCOR and the corporation’s contribution to the Philippines:

Japan - Hiroaki Wakui, Managing Director of Meiden Asia Pte Ltd and Ko Yamamoto, Managing Director of Meiden Singapore Pte Ltd

Andrea Dizon Domingo, Chairwoman and CEO of PAGCOR

Synergy Media Specialists: How will PAGCOR, as according to your corporate vision, enable the Philippines to become the top gaming and entertainment destination in the ASEAN region by 2020?

Andrea Dizon Domingo: “PAGCOR has ventured into the development of the Entertainment City, which will host the country’s premiere casinos. Infused in this initiative is the concept of ‘integrated-resorts” where by our casino licensees were required to invest not only in the establishment of casinos, but also in other entertainment activities including wellness centers, dining experiences, high-end shopping centers, theme parks and hotels. Located in the City of Parañaque and just five minutes away from our international airports, the Entertainment City is poised to give the casinos in other Asian countries a good challenge. We have likewise licensed other ‘integrated-resorts’ in major cities across the country to offer our guests ample choices should they wish to visit and experience the countryside”.

Synergy Media Specialists: How important is it to attract Southeast Asian and Japanese visitors to the Philippines?

Andrea Dizon Domingo: “It is well known that the uptrend in the gaming industry is happening in Asia. This is simply because Asians are enthusiasts of gaming more so than other nationalities and this casino investors are now migrating to Asia. Guests from the Asian region, including the Japanese, play an important role in invigorating our gaming and entertainment industry”.

Synergy Media Specialists: According to PAGCOR’s Mission, by 2020, you will make the Philippines the top gaming and entertainment destination in the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), generating revenues that fund nation-building programs. What part does PAGCOR play in the economic development of the Philippines?

Andrea Dizon Domingo: “PAGCOR plays a major role in the Philippine economy. We are the third largest contributor of revenues to the Philippine Government, beating us in revenue generation is of course the Bureau of Customs and the Bureau of Internal Revenue. What makes us a better contributor is the fact that the Philippine Government does not spend a single centavo for our operations as PAGCOR is a self-sustaining agency. In addition, with the establishment of our ‘integrated-resorts’, casinos, VIP clubs and other gaming stations, not only do we generate job opportunities for our people, we also contribute to the promotion of tourism in the country which as experienced worldwide, is a major contributor to economic growth and development”.

Synergy Media Specialists: How would you best describe the Philippine workforce in terms of productivity and commitment?

Andrea Dizon Domingo: “Filipinos as workers are really very productive and committed to their jobs. Our OFWs (overseas Filipino workers) are the greatest testament to this. Filipino workers are very much in demand in other countries for being very professional, hard-working and intelligent. The exemplary revenues that we generate from our very own casinos, is the result of PAGCOR having a hard-working and very productive workforce. Despite the fact that they earn so little from their meagre salaries, they generate so much revenue for the government; that’s what you call ‘commitment’”.

Synergy Media Specialists: What final message would you like to share with our readers?

Andrea Dizon Domingo: “PAGCOR, as both operator and owner of gaming properties has been serving our country well since 1983 and will continue to do so in the coming years”.
