Mobility

Approximately seventy percent of light-weight modern automotive vehicles are made from resins.

Polypropylene compounds, Ethylene-Propylene Terpolymer (MITSUI EPT™), Adhesive polyolefin (ADMER™), Thermoplastic olefinic elastomer (MILASTOMER™) and other engineering plastics continue to make vehicles lighter and tougher.

Health care

Mitsui Chemicals’ eye-glass lenses focus on vision correction and eye protection through the use of ultra-violate (UV) blocking polymers.

Food and packaging

Mitsui Chemicals solutions eliminate food waste and greatly advance food safety and security. The company’s multi-layered packaging films employ a ‘gas barrier’ effect to make food last longer.

Sakata Inx Corp. is ranked the third-largest ink manufacturer in Japan and worldwide. During the early ‘90s, Managing Director of the Indian subsidiary V.K. Seth recognized the business opportunities presented by India’s fast-growing printing and packaging industries and began importing high-quality ink produced by Sakata Inx in Indonesia.

As Seth began to develop his customer base, he earned the trust of Sakata Inx and established the company’s Indian subsidiary. In its early days, he operated it from his home.

Despite fierce competition, Seth grew Sakata Inx (India) Pvt. Ltd. and today heads the third-largest ink manufacturer in India with two state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities.

The company manufactures and supplies flexographic and gravure inks for the packaging industry and delivers newspaper and offset inks for use in the print media industry. The company does business in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, the Middle East, Africa, Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States.

According to Seth, who is also a member of Sakata Inx’s international advisory board, local research and development (R&D) started early in India.

“Headed by our Japanese engineers, our R&D activities in India lead to the development of ink technologies which suited India’s extreme climate and humidity, and the wide geographical territories assigned to Sakata India for business,” said Seth.

“Today we are the leaders in quality and are committed to formulating state-of-the-art, environment-friendly ink products which deliver unsurpassed performance while minimizing environmental impact. Our customers’ place great importance on solvent retention levels, food grade applications and global compliance and productivity.”

Today, Seth is focused on establishing a manufacturing facility — a wholly owned subsidiary of Sakata Inx (India) in Bangladesh — and reaching out to new markets in Africa and other territories.

“Sustainable solutions and environmental stewardship have always been core values for us,” said Seth. “We will continue to work closely with our customers to address social and environmental concerns while growing our business in India and beyond. Sakata will continue to grow by remaining focused on our customers.”

The automotive industry is one of Austria’s most important sectors. Known as the “Detroit of the Alps,” the city of Graz has developed a strong automotive industry and continues to build on its reputation.

Just over a decade ago, Agron Galimuna, CEO of Tri-Wall Austria Packaging Systems GmbH (Tri- Wall Austria) acquired a specialized multi-material packaging plant located near the city Graz.

The combination of Tri- Wall Austria’s close proximity to Graz, Galimuna’s wealth of experience in the automotive industry and the company’s team of highly skilled engineers has enabled Tri-Wall Austria to win customers across Central and Eastern Europe.

“Although the size of our Austrian operations is relatively modest compared with other subsidiaries within the Tri-Wall Group, our team of skilled engineers offer high levels of expertise in custom automotive packaging and are a valuable asset to the group,” said Galimuna.

A year after Galimuna joined, the Tri-Wall Group was acquired by Japanese packaging giant Rengo Co. Ltd.

“We hope to leverage our partnership with Rengo to build long-lasting relations with Japanese companies with operations in Central and Eastern Europe,” said Galimuna.

Moving forward, Tri- Wall Austria plans to harness new automation and digital technologies being driven by “Industry 4.0” to enhance productivity and better serve clients, while maintaining the company’s high-level production quality.

As an integral player within the group, Tri-Wall Austria will continue to deliver unique automotive packaging solutions founded on innovation, research and development.

“We have a deep appreciation for the Japanese work ethic,” said Galimuna. “Through continued Austria-Japan collaborations, we intend to learn more from one another and work closer together.”
